We have become aware of reports in the European press that Babboe has been asked to cease sales of their cargo bikes and recall cargo bikes pending safety checks. There are reports of broken frames.

There have been no official announcements from owner Accell Group, Babboe themselves or Raleigh the UK Distributor. Raleigh are asking UK dealers to stop selling bikes while they work with their Accell partners.

We have not experienced frame failure in Babboe bikes that we have sold, but are keen to help inform all Babboe owners of any possible danger. Babboe have previously managed a voluntary recall on City frames manufactured pre-2018.

We will report as the position clarifies. We are keen to help and advise Babboe owners of any steps that should be taken and will contact owners of any affected bikes sold by Outspoken Cycles by email.

Update 16/2/24

Sorry, no news from Babboe as yet. One cycle Industry article adds some context, or speculation. Many questions still to be answered.

Update 19/2/24

Raleigh Cycles, Distributor of Babboe Cargo Bikes have this afternoon, verbally informed us by telephone, that their advice is now that ALL Babboe Cargo bikes should NOT be used. This is also the case for Raleigh Pro bike and XL Trike.

We will be contacting our customers by email this evening.

We have again contacted Raleigh to ask questions of what the risks are, what models are affected, what redress will be put in place, timeframes – information is sparse, please rest assured that we are asking the questions.
